22 Ways to Go Green

Some people associate "going green" with spending green or being a lot of work. Not going to lie, I still buy bottle water and don't always bring reusable shopping bags when I go grocery shopping.

Each Earth Day I try to make an "Earth Day Resolution" that'll help our planet. To help with your Earth Day resolution check out these 22 simple ways to go green in honor of this year's Earth Day.

  1. Try cloth diapers.
  2. Start recycling!
  3. Install a programmable thermostat.
  4. Start your own compost pile.
  5. Add your fireplace ash to your compost pile.
  6. Turn off your computer at the end of the day.
  7. Bring your old newspapers to an animal shelter so they can use it in cages.
  8. Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs.
  9. Plan to run your errands back to back to save on gas and time
  10. Shut off appliances when not in use. Try using a power strip so you don't loose your mind unplugging every appliance.
  11. Join sites like thredUp and Out Growing In to swap clothes and toys your kid's have grown out of.
  12. Clean out your car! Extra weight burns more gas.
  13. Stop buying paper towels and use dish towels instead.
  14. Go paperless with your bills and pay them online to reduce paper usage.
  15. Recycle your old gadgets.
  16. Buy used textbooks.
  17. Start carpooling.
  18. Start checking out  thrift stores to kill your shopping urges.
  19. Pick up litter.
  20. Have a yard sale or stop by one.
  21. Fix that leaking bathroom faucet.
  22. Buy local food.
