A chill has come to the air. Fall is in, and summer is out. Which means is time to start buying summer clothes…for next year! As the clothing racks fill up with sweaters and jeans, retailers will need to find room by clearing out the tank tops and shorts. I always shop at the end of the season clearance/sales for my family’s wardrobe. With a little forethought, you can save a bunch for your family with this shopping strategy.
*In Store- Head to the back corner and look for those clearance signs. Then start hunting! Remember if you are buying for your kiddos, take into account they will probably be one size bigger next year. Also, be on the look out for extra savings on top of the clearance price. For instance, you can use Target store apparel coupons on top of the clearance price. And some stores, like Old Navy, offer extra percentages off the already marked down price.
*Online- The same strategy applies online. However, I think shopping end of the season online is even better than shopping in store, for several reasons. First, you will be able to use promotion codes and free shipping offers to bring your overal cost down further. Where do you find those discount promotional codes? BeFrugal is awesome for hunting down the latest online discounts. Just type in the store where you want to shop and BeFrugal will let you know if there are codes to be used. Plus, my second reason to shop online: Cash Back! On that same BeFrugal store landing page, you will find out how much cash back you can earn by shopping with that retailer. I just love knowing that I am bringing my final out of pocket price down even further. Every penny counts! And those pennies start to really add up with the great cash back offers on BeFrugal. The last reason to shop online: I can do it in my pajamas! ;)
*Don’t Forget Them- After buying my end of the season clothing, I store them using bins in my kids closets. This way, I don’t forget about them next year! When summer rolls around again, my kids think it is like opening a treasure chest to see all the fun fashion I bought for them last year, at a fraction of the cost. Also, keep the tags on the items in storage. Most stores have 30-90 day return policies, so you won’t be able to return the items. However, if there are a few items that end up being too small, you will be able to sell them to a consignment store or at a garage sale for a higher price than if the tags were removed. Also, consider giving them as a gift or donating them.
So even if you are wrapped up in a sweater right now, throw on a pair of flip flops to get in the summer mood, and buy your family a frugal and fashionable wardrobe for next summer!
