June 7th is Chocolate Ice Cream Day, a holiday where we can enjoy the best of both worlds for summer treats. The only thing better than chocolate ice cream is homemade chocolate ice cream. Homemade ice cream is not only fun to make, it gives you the freedom to add any additional ingredients to spice up your creation. If purchasing an ice cream machine is not in your budget, there are simple ways to make homemade ice cream without an ice cream maker.
Note:a custard-based ice cream recipe is best for a smoother texture.
Method #1
- Chill your ice cream mixture over an ice bath and place a stainless steel baking dish inside a freezer until it is cold.
- Pour the mixture into the cold baking dish and place the dish inside a freezer.
- After about 45 minutes, use a whisk to stir up the mixture and place the dish back into the freezer.
- Repeat whisking every 30 minutes for 2-3 hours.
Method #2
- Use 2 cups of heavy cream and one cup of condensed milk and whip the two ingredients together until the mixture stiffens.
- Add 1 ½ ounces of cocoa powder and any additional toppings to the mixture.
- Place the mixture in a container and place the container in a freezer for about 4 hours.
