The New Year is here and one of the most popular resolutions is getting into shape. If you are looking to get fit, but don’t want to compromise your budget, take a look at these frugal ideas.
Cycling and Walking
If you are not interested in joining a gym, cycling and walking are some of the easiest ways to get in shape. Most people already own a bike, and it not, you can find some for a reasonable price in stores like Walmart, Target, and Amazon.com. You could even get a pre-owned bicycle at eBay or on Craig’s List. Walking is also a great exercise and is fairly easy, especially for those with joint problems. If you have somewhere to go that isn’t too far, try walking there instead. It may take you a little longer, but the benefits are worth it. You could also try a walking routine during your lunch hour.
Eliminating Junk Food
For those who eat out pretty often, you know how much of your money goes towards food. Instead, cook for yourself at home and if you need to eat out, try frequenting restaurants with healthy options or calories listed on the menu. By cutting back on dining out, you can get in better shape and save money while you’re at it.
Free Workout Videos
Rather than spending money on expensive workout DVDs, look for some free workout videos. You can search for thousands of these videos for free on Youtube or on demand from your cable provider. You can also install free apps on your mobile device that provide exercise videos and tips while you’re on the go.
In-house Gyms
If you live in an apartment complex that has a gym, it’s a built-in benefit you’re already paying for. You will be able to get the same quality workout you would at an outside gym without ever having to leave the building. If you’re in the market for a new apartment or condo in 2017, consider the benefits of one with a gym membership included.
Start a New Membership
Gym memberships can sometimes be expensive, but most gyms have specials around this time for those who want to start the year achieving new health goals. Take advantage of these specials by joining right away. There are also gyms that offer month-to-month memberships so that you are not forced to pay for the entire year under a contract.
Swimming
Another frugal option for working out is to start swimming regularly. Go to your local community center to enjoy their indoor pool or use the pool at your gym if they have one. Swimming works out every muscle in your body and it doesn’t even feel like you are working out. If you swim consistently, you will see results in no time.
