Whether you just moved into a new home or have been at your place for several years, decorating your house can be sometimes a daunting experience. Some view decorating as a chore while others view it as a welcome challenge to be tackled one room at a time. Whatever your process or style; one thing many seek to do is to decorate without breaking the bank.
Dressing your home in an eco-friendly manner presents even more obstacles, but it should not force you to take a second mortgage out on your home. Let’s take a look at a few ideas and ways that you can decorate green on a budget.
Go Secondhand
This is perhaps one of the best ways to save money when starting a new decorating project. Using secondhand materials and or furniture is great for that renovation idea you’ve had for the bathroom or kitchen. Maybe you wish to change the floor out in your kitchen; you could use second hand wood from a salvage warehouse and or use repurposed wood from a local home goods shop. Just about anything can be bought second hand including walls, floors, furniture, appliances, accessories, etc. The key is to look for the pieces you actually plan to include in your decor scheme and that it fits your overall budget. There are low cost second hand stores and higher cost second hand stores; make sure to find the one that personally fits your needs.
Start Small
Another excellent method to save money when decorating your home is to simply start small and work your way around the house. You can start, for example, with the bathroom and just begin a project in this room only, or you could begin with the kitchen, office, yard, etc. Or you could start really small and just begin something minor within a room itself, such as changing only the floor in your bathroom and working on this alone. You’ll save lots of money this way and also still be well on your way to a nice new change in your home that makes you happy.
Go Online
There are lots of good deals to be had online on furniture and even on repurposed materials. If you’re looking for bamboo flooring, chances are there is a shop that has the type of bamboo you’re looking for and offers it at a good discount. You need to know where to look and also the type of materials you’re looking for and/or need. Also, keep in mind the various money saving tools available to us all on the web including coupons, cash back, buy one/get one, free consultations and/or simply the good deals many online shops can afford to give out due to volume.
