Mint.com is a free finance site that helps you maintain a budget, keep track of spending, and set personal finance goals. After reading a lot about it, I thought I'd give it a try.
By syncing with my checking and savings account, credit card, and student loans, mint.com picked up on my spending habits and helped me set a variety of monthly budgets and savings goals. If I'm over budget or am about to go over, mint.com sends me an email alert.
The only down side I found to this was that because it tracked my purchases through my debit account, the program couldn't automatically categorize cash purchases, although it does let you manually enter descriptions.
But I appreciate the different pie charts and graphs mint.com used to map my spending habits. I wasn't surprised when "yoga" took up over a quarter of my spending.
If you're interested in learning more about your spending habits and want to start saving some money, be sure to check out mint.com. Since it's a free service, you have nothing to loose.
