This time of year one can be overwhelmed with all the "back to school" advertisements. Many parents can also be overwhelmed with the back to school shopping process. It can bust your budget and can drive you crazy.
There are so many kids who just want everything (um hello tween girls don't need real Coach bags and iPhones!) but don't understand the value of money. While hunting for a semi-formal dress for one of the many weddings I have this year I got to see many parents doing back to school shopping. One mom had to deal with a crying teen because her daughter wanted something that was out of the family's budget.
Luckily I found my dress at the next store I hit so I didn't run into anymore teenage melt downs. While doing my usual personal finance blog reading I came across a great post on The Frugal Dad.
The Frugal Dad's daughter wrote a great guide on back to school shopping. A Frugal Daughter's Guide to Back to School Shopping was very refreshing after seeing a teenager throw a fit. As a sensible and wise girl, the Frugal Daughter wrote a great back to school guide that could've been written by a young mom.
It's great to see that families are teaching their kid's basic finances. It's also great to know that there are kid's that listen and learn from their parent's regarding money. How do you get what your children need for back to school while staying on budget? Anyone have a child like the Frugal Daughter? Or are your kids in the "but I want it" phase? Anyone have similar sightings as I did at the mall?
