Save a Dog was founded by a husband and wife team, Shirley Moore and David Bernier. While volunteering at local shelters this couple decided to begin fostering dogs. They were able to build a network with different pounds where they fostered dogs. 10 years ago Moore and Bernier started Save a Dog as an all-breed, all volunteer rescue group that they ran out of their own home for several years.
Save a Dog now has an amazing facility and kennel in Sudbury Massachusetts. There are millions of pets being euthanized each year this team is focused on saving as many dogs as possible. By working with humane societies in rural parts across the country, Save a Dog takes in groups of dogs at one time to have them adopted. Save a Dog also takes in local dogs who need services on a regular basis.
Along with taking in and caring for dogs, Save a Dog also educates people about pet overpopulation and why you should "adopt" versus "buy". In many shelters one out of every three dogs are purebred so there is no need to go to a breeder when you could adopt one.
With a focus on saving dogs lives and providing well natured dogs to be adopted by the public Save a Dog is in need of volunteers. If your interested in helping out check on the volunteering and donation sections!
Are there any great animal shelters in your area? Have you adopted any of your pets?
